The Santa Barbara Master Chorale is a community volunteer organization formed in 1984 to perform major choral works with full orchestral accompaniment. After more than 35 seasons, the Chorale continues to present the finest choral music from the 16th century to the present. The Chorale is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation, administered by a working board of directors. Our income is derived from ticket sales, concert program advertising, grants from public and private foundations, and donations from generous individuals.
Our Artistic Director and Conductor, Associate Conductor, and Rehearsal Accompanist are professional musicians, as are the orchestral musicians and vocal soloists who join us for our concerts. Information about these individuals can be found here.
Our season is funded in part by the Community Organizational Development Grant program using funds provided by the City of Santa Barbara in partnership with the Santa Barbara Arts Commission.
Our Vision
The Santa Barbara Master Chorale envisions a vibrant and inspired community united and uplifted through the profound emotional and transformative power of choral music for all ages.
Our Mission
The Santa Barbara Master Chorale is a community chorus committed to enriching the cultural life of the Central Coast by presenting the world's finest choral music, accompanied by professional orchestras and soloists, at affordable ticket prices. To achieve this goal, we help participating singers improve their musical knowledge and performance skills, and we actively promote an interest in choral music to diverse audiences, with a special focus on young people.
The Orchestra
The orchestra for each performance is comprised of professional musicians from Santa Barbara and the Greater Los Angeles area who play with symphonies, in musical theater orchestras, and in motion picture musical score ensembles. Sometimes they are joined by a few outstanding student musicians, giving the younger ones an opportunity to work side-by-side with professionals in public performance.
